Magyar Posta is issuing a special stamp to commemorate the centenary of the foundation of the Hungarian Table Tennis Association
The issue of the special stamp is part of a series of events organised by the Hungarian Table Tennis Association to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its foundation this year.
20 September 2024
The commemorative stamp was presented to the public by Dr Péter Mikecz, Magyar Posta’s Director General of Marketing Communications.
“The stamp, small though it may be, is easily accessible to everyone, so we trust that the national values it presents – in this case the sport of table tennis and our achievements in it – will reach as wide an audience as possible. Our Company has issued special stamps on this theme on several occasions. In 1982, Magyar Posta commemorated the European Table Tennis Championships held in Budapest with a stamp design by Miklós Forgács, and in 2006 we issued a special stamp in memory of Hungary’s Paralympic champion Ilona Sasváriné Paulik (1954-1999). The wheelchair table tennis player won the team silver medal and the individual bronze medal in Barcelona in 1992. In Atlanta in 1996, she won the individual title,” Dr Péter Mikecz said.
The central motif of the lively coloured stamp released today depicts two women playing table tennis. The main elements of the commemorative cover are the bats used for the game and the centenary logo. The main element in the imprint of the special postmark on the first day cover is the table tennis bat and the ping-pong ball. Forty thousand copies of the special stamp designed by Orsolya Kara were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issue goes on sale at Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu on the date of issue, 20 September 2024.
