WARNING! PHISHING EMAILS AND TEXTS OR SPOOF SOCIAL MEDIA MESSAGES CONTINUE TO BE SENT IN THE NAME OF MAGYAR POSTA
Beware: your bank card details and the money in your bank account will be compromised if you click on the fake e-mail link or provide any details without due care.

Recently, there has been a regrettable increase in the number of misuses of Magyar Posta’s name and services (e.g. EMS service), when the Company’s trademark (logo) and image elements have been used without authorisation in an attempt to deceive the public. A growing number of reports from customers are being received on a daily basis. A spoof e-mail, text message or phone call often asks customers to confirm their delivery address or pay a fee in order to receive a parcel, or to take part in a non-existing prize competition or promotion, or possibly to make a donation in a fictitious charity campaign. Sometimes fraudsters respond to an advertisement placed by the public on an online classified advertisement portal, pretending to be a serious buyer and misusing the name of the EMS postal service in an attempt to extort data or money by referring to payment of an insurance premium, postage or service charge in a fake e-mail or text message.
However, by clicking on the “Click here”, “Pay online”, “Send me the parcel”, “Confirm your address”, “Your parcel is ready for delivery, please confirm payment of customs duty”, or similar links in the e-mail will take the recipient to a phishing website and the information provided there will be used by scamsters, and money in a bank account may be put at risk as well. Occasionally, opening the link may start downloading malicious, harmful software on the device. If you receive such a suspicious e-mail or text message, please do not click on the links and do not provide any information. The first step is always to check the sender’s e-mail address or, in the case of a text message, the sender’s phone number, as this may immediately reveal that the request was not sent from the official e-mail address of Magyar Posta (@posta.hu) or from its phone number (+36-30-344-4987).
Please be vigilant because our Company never sends notifications to customers from a foreign telephone number or an e-mail address ending in “com”.
Magyar Posta only sends online or SMS text message payment notifications in connection with the payment of customs clearance fees for international parcels, in which the link www.posta.hu/szolgaltatasok/vam always appears.
Please note that, if your mail item contains a tracking code, you can access authentic delivery information at any time by entering the code on the website of Magyar Posta.
SUSPICIOUS SIGNS WHEN YOU SHOULD ACT WITH EXTREME CAUTION ARE:
- an unknown sender,
- ungrammatical wording and/or an overly urgent tone,
- spelling mistakes, missing accents on Hungarian vowels, the use of Cyrillic or Chinese characters,
- or if you have not ordered a parcel but are still informed that you have to pay for an ordered parcel,
- the promise of a too-good-to-be-true, expensive phone or other prize,
- and any message seemingly sent on behalf of the Company from a foreign telephone number or an e-mail address with an ending other than “posta.hu”.
We recommend that you always check the authenticity of the advertisement or notification and make sure that the message has come from the Company’s official e-mail address or telephone number. READ THE ENTIRE E-MAIL ADDRESS, NOT JUST THE NAME OF THE SENDER! Do not be deceived if the sender’s name is Központi Értesítés <kozponti.ertesites@postahu.com> (Central Notification), because Magyar Posta’s official e-mail addresses do not end in “com”.
Act with extreme caution when using mobile devices. It is harder to notice phishing attempts on a mobile phone or tablet because the cursor cannot be made to hover above suspicious links on such devices and, due to the smaller screen, even obvious telltale signs are harder to notice.
If a prize or other advantageous special offer is promised on behalf of our Company, or money is collected for an alleged charity programme with reference to Magyar Posta, before clicking, always check Magyar Posta’s website, where all official and valid campaigns and charitable initiatives are described. In case of doubt or suspicion, please contact our customer service and ask for confirmation. More information about how to prevent phishing is available here:
Magyar Posta takes customer communications about misleading notifications seriously and, in addition to informing the public, reports them to the authority empowered to act.
If, however, you do fall victim to a scam and suffer loss, you should report this to the police.
Magyar Posta is not liable for damages that may arise from responding to fake notifications and spoof messages.
