The Universal Postal Union (UPU), which has 192 member countries, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its foundation this year. The UPU’s mission is to ensure the free circulation of postal items by operators between countries. Each year, the UPU evaluates the development of each country’s postal operator based on uniform indicators, and measures how well the national postal operators contribute to the performance of their respective country’s economy.
In the ranking compiled by the international organisation on the basis of statistical results, Magyar Posta, based on its performance in 2023, rose to the 20th place this year after being placed 33rd last year. Magyar Posta won the Rising Star award, which is given to postal operators achieving the greatest overall improvement in a one-year period.
The international ranking uses comparable data such as the speed and predictability of postal services, international reach and the role of each postal operator in international trade, i.e. the number of countries it delivers to and the quantity of mail it is able to deliver to them. Other assessment criteria are the efficiency of the business model of the postal services and, last but not least, the adaptability of the postal operators to social, economic and technological challenges.
With this recognition, Magyar Posta has reached another milestone on the way to meeting its owner’s expectation of becoming a customer-centric, digital and sustainable postal operator that is adaptive and responds effectively to customer needs in the 21st century.
