Magyar Posta opens robotic warehouse
A service that is unique in Hungary and also outstanding in world terms has been launched by Magyar Posta Zrt., which from now on will provide its full warehouse logistics service in its entirely new, robotised and automated logistics centre. By providing a fulfilment service under the brand name SMART by MPL, the Company aims to become the dominant operator in the domestic market through digital and automated solutions that will later also lay the foundations for an international presence.

Dr Barnabás Balczó, Chairman and CEO, emphasised at the inauguration of the Centre: “The role of Magyar Posta as a national service provider is twofold: on the one hand, it must make postal services accessible to everyone, yet at the same time it must also be a market player and offer a portfolio of services adapting to the needs of the 21st century for both private and business customers. Magyar Posta’s complex fulfilment and parcel logistics service is another milestone in the Company’s transition into becoming a 21st-century service provider.”
More reliable, safer, simpler – in a nutshell, this describes the latest service of Magyar Posta, which the Company prepared for by making a major investment. The Company has launched its own fulfilment service, SMART by MPL, which provides a unique and innovative warehouse logistics solution for its business partners. The service includes outsourced warehousing in addition to putting orders together, packaging and handling returns.
The SMART by MPL fulfilment and MPL parcel logistics services together offer customers a service which enables them to track the whole process online, from product receipt at the warehouse, through ordering, to parcel delivery. For this purpose, Magyar Posta has created a new user-friendly customer portal through an entirely customised software development.
The investment in the Company’s Centre in Fót has created an 800 square metre automated storage space and an adjoining 1,200 square metre outdoor storage area, where robots will operate between 3,000 automated crate points and 240 pallet points, which together can accommodate 240 tonnes of products, 24 hours a day. This means that the Centre will be able to handle up to even a thousand business parcels each day from the outset.
“The combination of the fulfilment service and the related parcel logistics service is currently unprecedented in the domestic CEP market, and Magyar Posta is the first major player which has a significant share of the market as well as national coverage and its own fleet to offer this service,” Dr Géza Láng, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development, said at the event.
Automation will also accelerate the receipt, checking, storage, labelling and keeping inventories of goods. This will mean shorter lead times, as outsourced warehousing and delivery will be concentrated in the same hands. Accordingly, more advantageous prices can be set for packaged services and the digital platform provides transparent tracking of shipments throughout the process. Pick-up points are available across the country, and now returns can be handled even through parcel lockers. Moreover, SMART by MPL offers the possibility of foreign cash on delivery, clearing customs and even handling large parcels or parcels with unusual shapes.
SMART by MPL provides a warehouse logistics solution primarily for online stores dealing with small and standard boxed products, but also for banks, insurance companies and telecom firms, allowing customers to devote their resources to their own business growth rather than to logistics for their goods.
