MAGYAR POSTA INAUGURATES AN AUTOMATED CONVEYOR LINE AT ITS LOGISTICS PLANT IN BÉKÉSCSABA
As the largest postal service provider and parcel logistics company in the country, Magyar Posta’s key aim is to ensure that the needs of 21st-century customers are fully met. The newly inaugurated automated conveyor line at its Békéscsaba plant that was expanded to more than double in size last year will speed up parcel processing considerably, thereby further enhancing service quality. Together with the development, there has been a twofold increase in the size of the workforce at the Békéscsaba plant, meaning that the Company now employs about 100 people there compared to the previous 50.

“The aim is to make Magyar Posta a more competitive and more efficient operator in the long term, and to enable it to handle the volume of parcels growing from year to year in a flexible way, even during peak periods,” emphasised Dr Géza Láng, Deputy State Secretary for National Wealth and Postal Affairs of the Ministry of Economic Development, at the inauguration ceremony of the new automated conveyor line.
The conveyor line with a herring-bone layout installed in the Békéscsaba plant is able to process up to 2,500 parcels an hour, which involves performing authenticated weight and volume measurements of the parcels as well as their identification and routing. The 7-metre long telescopic conveyor track, which can be extended to a length of 14 metres, enables the direct loading and unloading of bulk mail to and from the truck, thereby eliminating the need for other material-handling equipment, which accelerates the process significantly.
Dr Barnabás Balczó, Chairman and CEO of Magyar Posta Zrt., pointed out: “Our most important task is to provide the highest quality postal services for customers. With this in mind, by the end of the year, we will have computerised around 300 post offices that are not yet automated, 30 of which will be converted in July. In order to achieve this, we are working to ensure that postal services are available in even the smallest communities in as great a number as possible. To this end, we have created our new post partner programme involving businesses and local authorities. We are also continuously modernising our logistics network to reach this goal, and the entry into service of the automated conveyor line at the Békéscsaba plant is another important milestone in this process.”
In 2023, the Company is installing automated parcel processing systems in Kaposvár, Füzesabony, Zalaegerszeg, Szombathely, Hatvan, Nagykanizsa, Békéscsaba and Veszprém.
A year ago, the Company launched a survey of customer experiences of MPL’s home delivery services. To date, over 1 million responses to the survey have been received by the Company, which show that respondents give the service a score of 9.5 out of 10.
The Company has launched a new time-guaranteed parcel delivery campaign lasting from 1 July until 31 October, which guarantees that mail items posted as an MPL Business parcel will be delivered to addressees on the next working day after posting. If the parcel is not delivered – or its delivery is not attempted – on the next day, Magyar Posta will reimburse the basic fee for the delivery of the parcel to the addressee’s bank account.
Magyar Posta endeavours to provide the highest quality of service to both private and business customers.
