MAGYAR POSTA PUTS NEW ELECTRIC VANS ON THE ROAD
Magyar Posta’s fleet has become even greener after the Company took delivery of 45 new electric vans from Porsche Hungaria, bringing the total number of electric goods vehicles used by the Company to nearly 100. Dr Barnabás Balczó, Chairman and CEO of Magyar Posta Zrt., pointed out at the handover ceremony that the Company is committed to sustainability, thus it is important for Magyar Posta to minimise the environmental impact of its parcel deliveries as far as possible.

The Company’s management took delivery of Magyar Posta’s new electric vans, which can be used for both transporting parcels and delivery services, at a ceremony at Porsche Hungaria’s Budaörs premises.
Dr Géza Láng, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development, stressed in his welcoming speech that the social and environmental impact of Magyar Posta is considerable, and that, “in view of this responsibility, it must develop its business strategy by integrating long-term, value-creating economic, environmental and social aspects, because the goal is to create a national company operating sustainably which can be competitive and efficient in the long term, adapting to the changing customer needs of the 21st century.”
At the delivery of the vans, Dr Barnabás Balczó, Chairman and CEO of Magyar Posta Zrt., emphasised: “Magyar Posta is an energy- and eco-conscious company which is constantly looking for areas where it can save energy and minimise its environmental impact. Together with the 45 new, 3.5-tonne electric vans, the Company now has a total of 87 environmentally friendly electric goods vehicles to deliver shipments nationwide.” The new vehicles will be used mainly by the Company for parcel transport and deliveries. At the same time as putting the 45 new electric vehicles on the road, Magyar Posta Zrt. will remove the same number of old, more polluting vans from service.
At the event, the CEO stated that Magyar Posta was committed to sustainable business operations and attached great importance to complying with the provisions of the government decree on the procurement of clean road vehicles, which entered into force last year. This decree provides that all new company vehicle purchases must include a certain proportion of electric propulsion vehicles. By taking delivery of the new vans, Magyar Posta has fully met this requirement.
The Volkswagen e-Crafter vans handed over today have a 100 kW/136 hp electric motor and are able to cover 160 km without recharging. They have a load space of more than 10 m3, making them the ideal choice for Magyar Posta’s parcel transport and delivery tasks. The numerous innovative driver assistance systems and intelligent safety systems in the e-Crafter aid the driver, providing even greater safety for the driver, the truck and the parcels.
The vehicles were handed over at Porsche Hungaria’s Innovation and Training Centre, which opened in 2022. Brigitte Auernigg, Managing Director of Porsche Hungaria, commented that sustainability was a primary consideration for the brands belonging to Porsche Hungaria as part of the Volkswagen Group, and that the automotive industry contributed to this through zero-emission, pure electric propulsion models, while also supporting the spread of e-mobility with electric vehicle charging equipment and renewable energy solutions under the MOON brand.
András Kovács, Brand Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, added that the brand currently offered two pure electric models suitable for road freight, one being the e-Crafter and the other the ID. Buzz, which, with the Van of the Year award to its name, sent a clear message that it was an excellent choice for anyone who wanted to make their business’s mobility sustainable. He welcomed the fact that Magyar Posta also attached importance to sustainable transport and hoped that the postal employees would enjoy working with the e-Crafter fleet.
In the first ten months of the year, Porsche Hungaria delivered almost 25,000 new vehicles to its customers, a 14% increase compared to the same period last year. Within this, the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand performed particularly well, showing 69% growth in the first ten months of this year compared to the corresponding period last year.
Another contribution to greening Magyar Posta’s fleet are the nearly three hundred new Neuzer electric assist bicycles which have been purchased recently. These, replacing the traditional bikes used by delivery staff, will enter service still this year at the post offices affected by the delivery reorganisation. With the latest acquisition together with the almost five hundred pedal sensor e-bikes purchased in previous years, the number of e-bicycles in Magyar Posta’s fleet has now reached 1,704. Electric assist bicycles are a great help for delivery workers as less physical effort is required to ride the torque-sensing bikes, and the batteries allow them to travel longer distances while expending less physical energy. The Company intends to replace all the conventional bikes of its delivery workers with e-bikes in the next few years.
Furthermore the number of tricycles and electric-powered three-wheelers, the Kyburz, which are popular with delivery staff, are increasing in Magyar Posta’s fleet.
The growing proportion of electric vehicles in Magyar Posta’s commercial vehicle fleet shows that green is not only the colour of the Company’s livery, but also reflects its complete commitment to the green transition and environmental awareness.
